A Big Night for Billy Yates!

Sunday night, Billy was at the Grand Ole Opry for the Josie Awards. He had just been on stage performing one of his songs when he got a surprise he wasn’t expecting. Nancy Jones, wife of the late, great George Jones, walked out and presented Billy with the Songwriter Legend Award.

That’s a pretty special honor — and an especially meaningful one considering Billy’s long friendship and musical connection with George Jones.

Afterward, Billy shared something that I thought was worth passing along:

“You spend your whole life working hard, living and loving the music business. Along the way, you experience the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. One day brings good news, and the next can bring disappointment.

But for me, the greatest blessing has always been the wonderful people I’ve met and the friendships I’ve made. It was never about accolades or recognition. It has always been about the music—and seeing how something that began as an idea in your heart can find its way into someone else’s life.

To help create the musical backdrop to people’s lives is a gift I never take for granted.”

I think that says an awful lot about Billy and why people enjoy him so much."

And the really neat thing for us is that you don’t have to go to the Grand Ole Opry to see this Songwriter Legend Award winner.
