I’m excited to share that New South will be performing in one of the most exciting special events of the spring season at Silver Dollar City on Saturday, May 9 — the one-day Celebrate America Concert in the beautiful Echo Hollow Amphitheatre. This special event will serve as a kickoff to America’s 250th celebration and promises to be a memorable day filled with music, patriotism, and family fun.

The concert will feature an outstanding lineup of Branson favorites, including The Presleys, The Petersens, Clay Cooper, The Haygoods, and many more, making it one of the biggest entertainment gatherings of the season. It’s always exciting to see our entertainment community come together for something this special.

I’m also honored to serve as emcee for the event and help welcome guests for what promises to be an unforgettable celebration. Being part of a day that highlights both our nation’s heritage and Branson’s incredible entertainment talent is truly meaningful.

The Celebrate America Concert is included with park admission or a season pass, giving families and visitors the chance to enjoy a full day at Silver Dollar City before gathering in Echo Hollow for this one-of-a-kind concert.

We hope to see many friends, locals, and visitors there on May 9 as we celebrate America, community, and the spirit that makes this area so special. Showtime is 1pm.

Newest Team Member of Pets and Giggles

On a recent Monday morning, Jessica Wilmes was already laughing when she answered the phone. Reaching for it had disrupted the peaceful snoozing of all three of the canine companions sharing her bed — and soon she had the attention of the rest of her 11-dog pack.

Wilmes' life revolves around her dogs, most of which are border collie and Australian shepherd mixes. At home, they're her pets. At work, they're the stars of the new edition of Pets & Giggles at Grand Country Music Hall in Branson.

This is Wilmes' first season with the popular family show, conceived by producer Andy Parks as "kind of like ‘Double Dare’ meets pets." With young human hosts, audience interaction and a troupe of adorable, athletic dogs, “we’re really committed to kids and families having fun at the show and being part of the show and making a memory,” Parks says.

One of this year's new human performers is 18-year-old Josiah Tovar from Nixa, Mo. It's his first professional acting gig, and he says he wanted to be sure he made an impression at auditions. Doing a front flip as an introduction apparently worked!

"They called me back, and I was really excited about that," he says. "This is literally one of my favorite jobs ever! I’m always telling my friends I can't believe I get paid to have fun! We get to interact with people, have great conversations, go on stage and have a blast."

It's the job of Tovar and his three human colleagues to welcome the audience before the show — and scope out which of the kids and families might enjoy being involved in the interactive portions of it. His first scene on stage, he gets to play a Kung Fu master, he says, with volunteers competing against some of the dogs to do ninja tricks. He's also got a big improv scene in the middle of the show with five audience members on stage, wacky sound effects and romantic planning for one young show goer.

"As a kid, I loved doing impressions, always being goofy and extroverted," he says. "I also have a ton of pets at my house, so this feels like home to me. You'll always find me taking selfies with the dogs!"

Wilmes has to be a little more businesslike with her dogs while she's at the theater.

"When I'm at work, so are they," she says. "And I get paid, so they have to, too," whether that's in treats, toys or attention. She wants her dogs to enjoy what they do on stage, and she wants to take care of them so they can do it as long as they want to do it. Training, she says, is obviously key. While there are dogs that naturally take to the job, there are others who are a little more challenging. And there are some who just don't want to work.

Dexter, for example, is her oldest dog, a rescue brought home from Guam by a soldier friend of hers. "He's never been a worker," she says. There's Fidget, a border collie mix she calls her "freeloader." "She has the ability to perform, but she doesn’t really want to do it, so I don’t make her." There's Smalls — yes, named from "The Sandlot" — a cattle dog/border collie/dachshund mix she calls "amazing."

"He is so talented, so driven, so in love with what he gets to do every day! He is my big up-and-comer. He’s 2, so he’s got a long road ahead of him. He’s a fan favorite!"

There's the newest family member, a black-and-white sheltie named Mike Wazowski from "Monsters Inc." Wilmes says at 16 weeks old, he's the "most confident puppy I've ever met."

There's Maui — named from the movie "Moana" — that Wilmes calls the "most handsome boy on the team," but quickly says not to tell the others. And there's Indy — yes, he's named after Indiana Jones — the dog she went through school with to learn how to do what she does. Together, they learned Frisbee routines, tricks, jumps, patience, fortitude and how to entertain adults and kids at fairs, festivals, amusement parks, schools, daycares and libraries.

"And then this amazing opportunity at Grand Country came up last November," she says. "It’s an honor to work with such a great group of creative people. Having the ability to bounce ideas off each other, create new things, being able to collaborate in a group that's so inclusive and welcoming and passionate about what they do is just incredible.

"At the end of the day," she says of the dogs, "they're all my pets, first and foremost. They are my family. They do all the things your dogs do at home. And they sleep in my bed." And she laughs.

Grand Jubilee — This is where audiences fall in love with Grand Country performers and make the choice to come back again and again! With the quartet New South and The Rhinestone Mafia centerstage, the show has won “Entertainers of the Year,” “Branson’s Best Show,” “Branson’s Best Variety Show,” “Quartet of the Year,” “Comedian of the Year,” “Emcee of the Year” and more. You’ll hear Top 40, country & gospel classics, and rock ‘n’ roll hits from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, all seasoned with comedy by Jamie Haage. On stage at 7:30 p.m. every day.

Down Home Country — If you’re a fan of classic country and clean, clever comedy, Down Home Country is your kind of show, featuring Grammy-nominated, Emmy Award-winning Billy Yates. This feel-good favorite blends timeless country hits with warm storytelling, rich harmonies, and just the right dose of down-home humor. Campbell promises you’ll leave with a full heart, a big smile, and maybe a tune or two stuck in your head. Down Home Country returns April 15.

Comedy Jamboree — Branson’s only comedy improv show offers laughs, music and family fun on stage at 3 p.m. every day except Thursday and Sunday. Justin Sifford, better known to audiences as Stretch McCord, says Comedy Jamboree is not Branson’s traditional “country” humor. There’s no country music, he says by way of example; nowadays it’s rock ‘n roll and pop. And the comedy, he says, is more of the sketch style, more improv and a little bit edgier, all clean and all hilarious.

Ozarks Gospel — With the sweet harmonies of Tammy, Tonya and Jamie Bilyeau, you can’t find a better way to celebrate the Lord on Sunday. Showtime is 2 p.m. Sundays, and Ozarks Country, celebrating country classics of yesteryear combined with today’s hot country hits, is back at 7 p.m. Sundays.

New South Gospel — Branson’s fan-favorite quartet, New South, is back with all of your gospel favorites. Grand Country Music Hall spokeswoman Heleena Campbell promises the show will lift your spirits with music that has resounded through the Ozarks for years. “From backyard family gospel sings to little country church choirs, there’s nothing like the hope and inspiration a good old gospel song can bring to your soul,” she says. Also joining the show will be Tracy Heaston, Jackie Brown, Jim Dandy, and the award-winning Grand Band puts the icing on this incredible gospel showcase. On stage at 3 p.m. Thursdays.

Spring Break is one of the most exciting times of the year at Grand Country Resort, and we’re thrilled to welcome families from across the country as they make Branson their vacation destination!

This Thursday night, the Grand Jubilee stage will feel a little more complete — and a whole lot richer — as we welcome back a very special member of our musical family.

After being away for the past three months while recovering from heart surgery to repair a leaky valve, Mark McCauley, bass singer for the New South Quartet, is returning to the spotlight. We’re happy to share that Mark is doing well, feeling strong, and ready to do what he has done so beautifully for nearly a quarter of a century — lift hearts through music.

Mark is an original member of the Grand Jubilee, celebrating 24 years on our stage. His deep, steady bass voice has anchored countless songs, strengthened every harmony, and become a sound our audiences instantly recognize and love. But beyond the music, Mark’s faith, professionalism, and quiet consistency have made him a cherished part of the Grand Country family.

His time away has reminded us just how much one person can mean — not only to a show, but to a community of fans who pray, encourage, and celebrate together. We are grateful for Mark’s successful surgery, thankful for his recovery, and excited to welcome him back where he belongs.

Comedy Is Serious Business

If you don't believe it, ask Andy Parks. Before he ever takes the stage in Grand Country Music Hall's Comedy Jamboree, he and Master of Ceremonies Justin Sifford have been above, below, inside, outside and all around the topic of what makes people laugh.

“Some people are born to do math,” Parks muses. “Some are born to be nurturers. And some are just born to be funny.”

But even if you are naturally funny, Parks says, you've got to consider your audience — and in Branson, that audience can include everyone from teenagers on spring break to families with children to Comedy Jamboree's 2,000-plus season pass holders, who know every word of the show — or think they do. The real challenge right now, he says, is the teens and 20-somethings who were raised on short content — like TikTok reels — and former prisoners of the pandemic who have gotten used to watching TV while scrolling their phones. Both of these audiences are challenging, Parks admits, but fast-paced, audience-interactive comedy — with music in between skits — seems to get and hold their attention.

Parks says he's discovered everyone likes what he calls "family insult comedy."

"If you can find the family that loves to laugh and pick on each other, or you find the one family member they all pick on, you've got the whole crowd," he says, laughing himself. "Everybody has an Uncle Jim or a Cousin Ted, and that helps them let down their guard and laugh.

"It's just pure fun, ribbing, and I'll make sure at intermission I talk to them and thank them for being willing to laugh at themselves."

It's how Parks grew up.

"My whole life I've been a student of comedy," he says. "My dad is the funniest person I've ever met. He was a teacher, and he had this great way of engaging all the students and all the staff. He'd go into a room and light it up."

His father, Parks says, "has a pinky finger that doesn't exist, but he's told so many stories that I have no idea how he lost it! So he's an improv master. That was my intro."

Parks studied theater, both in college and by watching masters of the art like Jim Carrey, whom he calls one of his biggest influences.

"I got my first taste of doing improv in theater class and instantly fell in love," he remembers. "You mean we can create and make fun and not have to remember any lines? I'm in!"

Parks worked in TV, theater and film, including a stint in Los Angeles, then moved to Branson, where he's been with Grand Country Music Hall for two decades. As a producer now, he says he tries to give audiences "a small nugget of what's inside my brain. Even I can't handle all of it!"

The secret to successful comedy, Parks says, is honesty. He hearkens back to a skit on "The Carol Burnett Show" where Tim Conway played the oldest man in the world — and sidekick Harvey Korman couldn't keep from laughing.

"Conway was absolutely committed to the truth of being the oldest man in the world," Parks says. "He moved like it didn't matter that they were filming this! If you do everything from a place of honesty, you'll get the laughs. Honesty about being ridiculous is really funny. It takes it home for me."

The new Comedy Jamboree opening Feb. 25 will include a lot of new material, Parks says, but it'll still start with some old standbys — picking out an audience member and making up a song about them or bringing a couple onstage. In that skit, he and Sifford will control the narrative as ventriloquists while "we do a little onstage family therapy," again returning to his belief that what's real in life is funny on stage.

What's new this year is more comedy in the musical interludes. "It is the comedy 'jamboree,'" Parks says. "So the music should be eye or ear pleasing in the comedy realm. We have amazingly talented singers, an amazingly talented band, and this year, they'll get to show off some of their comedy chops, too."

As an example, Parks talks about a "Yacht Rock" medley he says he'd been polishing even before he knew the musical genre was trendy. Yacht Rock is pop rock, mostly from the 1970s, "feel good" songs, Parks says, like "Dancing in the Moonlight," "Islands in the Stream," songs by Stevie Nicks and Christopher Cross, and it's one of the hottest stations on Pandora.

"I just thought it would be fun to do," he says. "People just want to go to a better place, you know? It's a 10-minute segment, and I wish it could be longer."

Justin Sifford, Parks' partner on stage, says Comedy Jamboree is certainly not Branson’s traditional “country” humor. He calls what happens during a performance "completely organic" and a lot of fun for the comics. But he agrees it's not easy, and they have to "come out swinging" every show.

“You’ve got to be at the top of your game,” he says, laughing himself. “You’re putting it all out there, and you run the risk of failing badly. But I look forward to because it’s challenging.”

"Every show we do is different, even if it starts with the same material," Parks adds. "It all depends on audience engagement."

“I think people outside looking in wonder how hard can comedy be? Well, try it," Sifford says. "And then you tell me. I’ve got a college degree; I’m physically able to do most anything; I could be trained to to do most anything. But nobody can be trained to do what we do. Comedy is timing. It’s delivery. Either you have it or you don’t. I emcee, I do comedy, I sing — and I try every day to give 110 percent for those two hours.”

What Parks can promise is that Comedy Jamboree will be clean.

“Someone will always be offended, and someone will always think it’s hilarious,” he says. “We’re not doing other people’s jokes; we’re making it up. We’ll shock them into laughter, tickle them into laughter, comfort them into laughter. Comedy should be an experience that takes you out of the theater and out of the sorrow, the sadness, the pain, the frustration, to where you can see a little light at the end of the tunnel.”

In addition to Comedy Jamboree, currently on stage at 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday with 7:30 p.m. shows Wednesdays through February, Grand Country Music Hall also offers:

Grand Jubilee — This is where audiences fall in love with Grand Country performers and make the choice to come back again and again! With the quartet New South and The Rhinestone Mafia centerstage, the show has won “Entertainers of the Year,” “Branson’s Best Show,” “Branson’s Best Variety Show,” “Quartet of the Year,” “Comedian of the Year,” “Emcee of the Year” and more. You’ll hear Top 40, country & gospel classics, and rock ‘n’ roll hits from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, all seasoned with comedy by Jamie Haage. Grand Jubilee is on stage four nights a week through February — Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The full six-day-a-week schedule resumes in March.

Pets & Giggles — Whether you’ve got kids of all ages or you’re just young at heart, you’ll love Pets & Giggles, filled with games, skits and the cutest dogs in Branson showing off their speed, agility, teamwork and trust. You might also find yourself a star of the show as audience members get in on the hilarious adventures. Showtimes are 10 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Ozarks Gospel — With the sweet harmonies of Tammy, Tonya and Jamie Bilyeau, you can’t find a better way to celebrate the Lord on Sunday. Showtime is 2 p.m. Sundays starting March 1, and Ozarks Country, celebrating country classics of yesteryear combined with today’s hot country hits, returns at 7 p.m. Sundays, starting March 15.

New South Gospel — Branson’s fan-favorite quartet, New South, will return with all of your gospel favorites on April 2. Grand Country Music Hall spokeswoman Heleena Campbell promises the show will lift your spirits with music that has resounded through the Ozarks for years. “From backyard family gospel sings to little country church choirs, there’s nothing like the hope and inspiration a good old gospel song can bring to your soul,” she says. Also joining the show will be Tracy Heaston, Jackie Brown, Jim Dandy, and the award-winning Grand Band puts the icing on this incredible gospel showcase.

Down Home Country — If you’re a fan of classic country and clean, clever comedy, Down Home Country is your kind of show, featuring Grammy-nominated, Emmy Award-winning Billy Yates. This feel-good favorite blends timeless country hits with warm storytelling, rich harmonies, and just the right dose of down-home humor. Campbell promises you’ll leave with a full heart, a big smile, and maybe a tune or two stuck in your head. Down Home Country returns April 15.

It might be said that Mike Patrick, the master of ceremonies at the Grand Country Music Hall, hands Michael Davis a menu for every new season. It’s up to Davis, the pianist and music director for the Grand Jubilee, to take the ingredients selected by Patrick and make a delicious musical meal.

The all-new show for 2026 was served up for the first time on New Year’s Eve, and Barry Arwood, lead singer for the headlining New South Gospel Quartet, repeatedly honored as Branson’s Best Quartet, says audiences and the musicians themselves are happily singing, dancing and playing their fill.

“We do the Grand Jubilee show 250 to 300 times, six nights a week, probably 49 weeks out of the year,” he says. “So no matter how fun the show is, it’s nice to have something fresh and mix things up a little bit. Plus musicians always enjoy the process and the challenge!”

Davis explains that he does read music, but it’s his ability to play by ear that helps create a new show. Patrick — who is the reigning emcee of the year in Branson and the heart that sets the beat for all the shows at the Grand Country Music Hall — brings him a smorgasbord of songs he’d like to perform, usually delivered as recordings he enjoys. It’s up to Davis to take the pieces that Patrick prefers and deliver them to the performers as sheet music, ready to learn.

“It’s a creative process,” Davis says. “I know a lot musically, and I know how to orchestrate everything, but I also like to incorporate everyone’s ideas; it makes you feel like you own part of the show.”

Like so many Branson performers, Davis has been making music as long as he can remember. Growing up in Camden, Ark., he started lessons in classical piano at age 4. Later, he joined the school band and choir, but he and his dad also played with legendary blues and soul guitarist, singer and songwriter Michael Burks.

“I’ve always been passionate about all different styles of music,” he says. “Classical just provides a deep foundation — and it gives you good piano technique as well!”

The road to Branson started with another friend of his dad’s, country Americana songwriter Steve Black, who was playing the Pump Boys & Dinettes Dinner Theater and offered him a job. Soon, Davis was on the road with Black, playing Branson and the Ozark Mountain Hoedown in Eureka Springs. A chance in 2001 to join the Down Home Country Show at the Grand Country Music Hall sounded magical.

Arwood and Patrick both grew up surrounded by music, too.

Arwood went to Missouri Southern State University majoring in classical bassoon and minoring in opera vocal performance. But he also grew up going to Branson as a weekend getaway with his family and hanging out with his grandfather, a music minister, a recording studio owner and an occasional guest performer with the Foggy River Boys.

Patrick grew up down the road from Branson in Nixa, Mo., and attended church with the original Bald Knobbers, the Mabe family, who started the Branson family entertainment tradition in 1959.

“I was 5 before I knew not everybody did a show at night,” Patrick remembers with a laugh. “I was always in love with Branson. I always knew I wanted to be a part of that world.”

Arwood admits being part of the Grand Jubilee is still surreal to him.

“I remember being 5 or 6 years old and seeing all the performers at Silver Dollar City or going to see the different shows on the strip with my family and going back to the Branson Towers Hotel for their cobbler and ice cream after the shows were done,” he says. “I remember seeing the people up on stage and thinking that was the coolest thing on the planet. And now I’m on that stage.”

Arwood and Davis both perform almost every day at Grand Country, with rehearsals whenever the quartet and the band can find a minute to work together. The new repertoire becomes the focus of those rehearsals in the autumn, bringing together new songs, old songs and favorite songs. With New South and The Rhinestone Mafia centerstage, it’s the heart of the Grand Country lineup, with a list of awards including “Entertainers of the Year,” “Branson’s Best Show,” “Branson’s Best Variety Show,” “Quartet of the Year,” “Comedian of the Year,” “Emcee of the Year” and more.

As always, Davis says, audiences will hear Top 40, country & gospel classics, and rock ‘n’ roll hits from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, all seasoned with comedy by "Jim Dandy," also known as Jaime Haage.

Of course, fans who come back again and again want to know the performers, and Davis says this year’s “band song” — when they’re introduced — is Brad Paisley’s hit, “Cliffs of Rock City.” And they’ll get to see Davis come out from behind his piano to play the “keytar,” a keyboard instrument he can wear like a guitar.

“I’m kind of a shy guy on one hand, but I like people,” Davis says with a chuckle.

Grand Jubilee is on stage four nights a week through February — Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday — with bonus shows Feb. 15-16 for Valentine's Day. The full six-day-a-week schedule resumes in March.

Good afternoon!

We’ve been looking for our own “in-house” pet trainer for our Pets & Giggle show. I’m very excited to announce Jessica Wilmes is joining our entertainment team.

Jessica has been working with dogs professionally since 2016. She began her career in pet grooming, where she quickly saw how stress and fear can impact a dog’s experience. That realization sparked a deeper interest in behavior and training, leading her to attend dog training school later that same year.

From 2017 to 2019, Jessica worked as a professional pet trainer, helping dogs and their families build better communication and confidence. In 2019, she joined the Purina Farms Incredible Dog Team, where she performed in educational demonstrations that combined high-energy entertainment with practical, real-world dog knowledge.

In March of 2024, Jessica left Purina Farms to launch her own business. Since then, she has traveled to multiple states performing with her own dogs in theaters, at fairs, festivals, schools, assisted living facilities, and community events. Her programs focus on teaching safe, respectful interaction with dogs, promoting rescue, and helping families understand how to choose the right dog for their lifestyle.

Jessica also competes in frisbee and dock diving with her dogs, continuing to challenge herself and her team in canine sports. When she’s not training, traveling, or performing, she enjoys crocheting and crafting.

“I’m so excited to be at the Grand Country Music Hall and to work with a team that’s truly passionate and loves what they do. Getting to bring joy to people from all over while sharing what I love alongside my best friends is what makes this so special.”

Featuring a rotating line up of productions nearly every day of the week, even performing on most major holidays, Grand Country prides itself on offering a diverse assortment of top notch entertainment, featuring key performers that audiences have grown to know and love since the theater’s very inception including Grand Country’s resident House Band, The Rhinestone Mafia, as well as the wildly entertaining comics and performers, Jamie Haage (as Jim Dandy) and Mike Patrick, known far and wide as one of the most illustrious emcees and show producers in all of Branson.

The Backstage Pass Team, after a couple year’s hiatus from our previously established annual excursions to Branson, was elated by the opportunity to return and highlight Grand Country Music Hall’s outstanding line up of shows for the 2025 Holiday Season.

See below the stellar line up of productions we highlighted during our visit and some inside scoop regarding what to expect during your upcoming visit:

PETS AND GIGGLES

This dynamic, action packed, brand new show at Grand Country Music Hall marked our first visit to the theater’s roster of shows, and we celebrated Christmas night along with a packed theater full of families, filled with the Christmas spirit and eagerly anticipating the fun-filled nearly two hour long entertainment extravaganza which lay ahead.

The show kicked off to a rousing start with the “giggles” portion of the show, featuring the relentlessly high energy cast, including Asher, Jordan, and Zane, who bring superb comedic timing and zany enthusiasm to every single moment of the fast-paced show.

If you or your child have ever dreamt of starring in a live production, Pets and Giggles is the perfect opportunity to do so, as audience interactivity is an integral part of the show’s format. Numerous volunteers are summoned during various portions of the show including a laugh out loud funny segment featuring a “Kung Foo Challenge” with an array of pint sized audience members, “Going Fishing” where audience volunteers did their best respective “flopping fish” impressions, a Porcelain throne segment all about (you guessed it) family friendly “potty humor”, and a lively game of corn hole .

Legendary performer Todd Oliver (as seen on top stages and entertainment outlets throughout the United States and on the television competition series, America’s Got Talent) took the stage with his world renowned “talking dog” , a lovably droll, scene- stealing Boston Terrier named Irving. Oliver, regarded as one of the most highly innovative and skilled ventriloquists of his time, engages in clever banter with his sidekick, playfully riffing on the audience at times and hilariously improvising for an act you truly must see in order to believe.

Following the approximately 15 minute intermission, Oliver returns for more spellbinding entertainment, this time incorporating his magic and illusion skills (for which he is also world renowned) including a portion of the show where a beautiful bird seemingly appears from nowhere, subsequently vanishing again, right before the audience’s very eyes. Additional stand-out moments from Oliver include an act where a wide eyed and incredulous volunteer pulled a rabbit from a hat in real time and a heartwarming performance of the song “Man’s Best Friend”, celebrating the unparalleled friendship and loyalty we receive from our canine companions.

The talented cast of performers recruit many more volunteers of all ages and backgrounds during more portions of the show, including an entire family who happened to be wearing coordinated Christmas attire, an entertaining and charismatic husband and wife duo who engaged in a competitive bout of “Marital Trivia”, a “Dance Off/Obstacle Course Challenge” where several grown men in the audience channeled their inner child whilst showing off their greatest moves.

Playful, undeniably fun, and interactive, this family friendly show is bound to keep you smiling from ear to ear throughout!

COMEDY JAMBOREE

Acclaimed by critics and audiences alike as one of the funniest shows in all of Branson MO, Comedy Jamboree is widely known for its high-energy mix of comedy, music (country, gospel, and pop), and impersonations, featuring a cast of comedians and musicians performing classic hits and original material in a completely family-friendly setting. Featuring a plethora of genres including country, gospel, pop music, and much more, the Comedy Jamboree highlights a vast array of talented performers, comics, musicians, and dancers, all coming together to form a full scale production which is sure to be one of your favorite shows on the bustling world famous “76 Country Blvd.”

The show’s format features a holiday themed twist opening with the lovably impish “Little boy that Santa Claus Forgot” portrayed by Branson Comedy legend, Jamie Haage (who can be seen in this show and many others at the Grand Country Music Hall performing as his alter ego, “Jim Dandy”) and a hilariously irreverent rendition of the campy 1944 classic “Baby It’s Cold Outside”, performed with style, charisma and aplomb by the singers/dancers of the Comedy Jamboree along with the help of an audience volunteer.

This high octane and hilarious show is sure to set your holiday spirits soaring high with an array of Christmas favorites inspired by some of your favorite films , including the 1980’s Chevy Chase holiday classic, Christmas Vacation, and a revamped redo of the instantly recognizable Wham! smash hit “Last Christmas.”

The Comedy Jamboree bears a striking resemblance to some of the nostalgic comedy masterpieces of yesteryear such as 1970’s /1980’s era Saturday Night Live, and improvisation is an integral element of the show’s format featuring much audience interactivity, suggestions from the nearly packed house, and parodies that will keep you and your entire family in stitches.

Additional Christmas themed portions of the show include a reading of the Nativity Story, a bouncy and fun Christmas tune entitled “King of Kringle”, and the instantly recognizable holiday classic “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home.)

The “Comedy” portion of Comedy Jamboree brings wildly original, uproariously funny comedic content including a condensed retelling and parody of the Home Alone franchise, a crazed Grand Country Music Hall “Superfan” (aka: one of the comics hilariously decked out in drag as an unhinged groupie who runs on stage and comes on a bit too strong toward the performers), and a segment where audience suggestions are pulled from a jar and selected by the performers to be read aloud to the live audience (for example, one of the selected cards read as follows: “What is a food that kills intimacy?” Answer:Wedding Cake.)

Additional stand out moments include a segment entitled “Fake News Network” (reminiscent of the iconic Weekend Update institution on Saturday Night Live) featuring the hilariously irreverent “Dipthong The Elf” and Andy Parks bringing side splitting laughs as the “Cajun Weatherman”, whose bayou drawl greatly overshadows any weather forecasting as random fish and alligators fly through the air throughout this hysterically funny broadcast.

All masters within the field of improvisation, the actors bring up volunteers during numerous portions of the show, including, but not limited to, a segment where a couple men were called up on stage and given various words, which were subsequently incorporated into a comedic scene, a couple named Brandon and Melissa who were summoned to act out their first date, and a volunteer named Kyler from Texas who was afforded the opportunity to star in his very own game show entitled “The Grand Game.”

A section of the show dedicated to a variety of top television shows spanning the decades is sure to have you feeling nostalgic and walking down memory lane with tributes to The Muppets, Scooby Doo, Friends, Bad Boys, Hannah Montana, and even SpongeBob SquarePants.

Always unabashed in their unwavering patriotism, the Comedy Jamboree closes out their show with a rousing round of applause to all attending veterans and a tribute to the red white and blue with a beautiful performance of “God Bless the USA.”

This nearly two hour entertainment spectacular kicks off to a festive start with the Christmas classic “Sleigh Ride”, and an introduction to the cast, all decked out in their holiday best, including Jackie Brown, Luke Maynard, Mike Patrick, Jamie Hagee, the widely acclaimed Rhinestone Mafia Band (who provides the soundtrack to all of the house shows at Grand Country Music Hall), as well as New South Gospel, a dynamic quartet bringing to life all of your favorites Gospel hits you have grown to know and love throughout the decades.

Grand Jubilee’s longtime principal female vocalist, Jackie Brown, performs numerous holiday favorites which are sure to get you in the Christmas spirit including Frosty the Snowman and Brenda Lee’s Rocking Around the Christmas Tree. A rendition of Blue Christmas in the signature, instantly recognizable, pitch perfect tone of Willie Nelson brings the audience to uproarious applause, and just a few many other holiday favorites include a soothing, peaceful performance of Silent Night by New South, Jingle Bell Rock, a rousing rendition of Carol of the Bells, featuring the diverse talents of the Rhinestone Mafia, and a stunning performance of, one of the -arguably-most famous Christmas songs of all time dating back to the 1800’s, O Holy Night.

Jaime Haage (in his signature character as “Jim Dandy”) tells a heartwarming Christmas story of “Conrad the Beggar” , a tale centered around the transformative power of generosity and kindness, and each respective cast member brings a special element to the show, filling the air with a palpable sense of holiday wonderment.

The standard format of the show features a wide variety of musical genres including toe tapping performances of the 1968 Steppenwolf smash hit, Born to Be Wild, I Heard it Through the Grapevine by legend, Marvin Gaye, a poignant performance of The Beatles’ Let It Be, and Bonnie Tyler’s passionate hit song from the blockbuster “Footloose”, Holding Out for a Hero.

One of the true crowd favorites which (quite literally) gets the entire audience up on their feet dancing is “YMCA” by the Villiage People, featuring the talented cast of New South, and just a few of the additional dizzying array of crowd favorites brought to life in this full force 2 hour show includes the relentlessly upbeat Joy to the World (Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog), ZZ Top’s Sharp Dressed Man, and an interactive performance of Hey Jude which had the entirety of the audience singing right along.

Many of the tremendously talented principal performers in the Grand Jubilee are also remarkably skilled instrumentalists, and Grand Country’s “Golden Boy” (Voted Emcee and Show Producer of the Year many times by a variety of media outlets and award shows), Mike Patrick wows the audience with an impossibly fast paced performance of Jerry Lee Lewis’s chart topper “Great Balls of Fire” while Jim Dandy impresses with his banjo skills.

The comic relief portions of the show include an uproariously funny impression of Sonny and Cher by the dynamic duo of Patrick and Dandy, Jamie Haage in full drag as the Queen of Country, Dolly Parton, and more musical favorites include 9 to 5 from the award winning film by the aforementioned Parton, the Bruno Mars dance-worthy chart topper 24 K magic, and another up tempo Mars favorite, Runaway Baby.

New Grand Jubilee Show for 2026

It might be said that Mike Patrick, the master of ceremonies at the Grand Country Music

Hall, hands Michael Davis a menu for every new season. It’s up to Davis, the pianist

and music director for the Grand Jubilee, to take the ingredients selected by Patrick and

make a delicious musical meal.

The all-new show for 2026 was served up for the first time on New Year’s Eve, and

Barry Arwood, lead singer for the headlining New South Gospel Quartet, repeatedly

honored as Branson’s Best Quartet, says audiences and the musicians themselves are

happily singing, dancing and playing their fill.

“We do the Grand Jubilee show 250 to 300 times, six nights a week, probably 49 weeks

out of the year,” he says. “So no matter how fun the show is, it’s nice to have something

fresh and mix things up a little bit. Plus musicians always enjoy the process and the

challenge!”

Davis explains that he does read music, but it’s his ability to play by ear that helps

create a new show. Patrick — who is the reigning emcee of the year in Branson and the

heart that sets the beat for all the shows at the Grand Country Music Hall — brings him

a smorgasbord of songs he’d like to perform, usually delivered as recordings he enjoys.

It’s up to Davis to take the pieces that Patrick prefers and deliver them to the performers

as sheet music, ready to learn.

“It’s a creative process,” Davis says. “I know a lot musically, and I know how to

orchestrate everything, but I also like to incorporate everyone’s ideas; it makes you feel

like you own part of the show.”

Like so many Branson performers, Davis has been making music as long as he can

remember. Growing up in Camden, Ark., he started lessons in classical piano at age 4.

Later, he joined the school band and choir, but he and his dad also played with

legendary blues and soul guitarist, singer and songwriter Michael Burks.

“I’ve always been passionate about all different styles of music,” he says. “Classical just

provides a deep foundation — and it gives you good piano technique as well!”

The road to Branson started with another friend of his dad’s, country Americana

songwriter Steve Black, who was playing the Pump Boys & Dinettes Dinner Theater and

offered him a job. Soon, Davis was on the road with Black, playing Branson and the

Ozark Mountain Hoedown in Eureka Springs. A chance in 2001 to join the Down Home

Country Show at the Grand Country Music Hall sounded magical.

Arwood and Patrick both grew up surrounded by music, too.

Arwood went to Missouri Southern State University majoring in classical bassoon and

minoring in opera vocal performance. But he also grew up going to Branson as a

weekend getaway with his family and hanging out with his grandfather, a music minister,

a recording studio owner and an occasional guest performer with the Foggy River Boys.

Patrick grew up down the road from Branson in Nixa, Mo., and attended church with the

original Bald Knobbers, the Mabe family, who started the Branson family entertainment

tradition in 1959.

“I was 5 before I knew not everybody did a show at night,” Patrick remembers with a

laugh. “I was always in love with Branson. I always knew I wanted to be a part of that

world.”

Arwood admits being part of the Grand Jubilee is still surreal to him.

“I remember being 5 or 6 years old and seeing all the performers at Silver Dollar City or

going to see the different shows on the strip with my family and going back to the

Branson Towers Hotel for their cobbler and ice cream after the shows were done,” he

says. “I remember seeing the people up on stage and thinking that was the coolest thing

on the planet. And now I’m on that stage.”

Arwood and Davis both perform almost every day at Grand Country, with rehearsals

whenever the quartet and the band can find a minute to work together. The new

repertoire becomes the focus of those rehearsals in the autumn, bringing together new

songs, old songs and favorite songs. With New South and The Rhinestone Mafia

centerstage, it’s the heart of the Grand Country lineup, with a list of awards including

“Entertainers of the Year,” “Branson’s Best Show,” “Branson’s Best Variety Show,”

“Quartet of the Year,” “Comedian of the Year,” “Emcee of the Year” and more.

As always, Davis says, audiences will hear Top 40, country & gospel classics, and rock

‘n’ roll hits from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, all seasoned with comedy by "Jim Dandy", also

known as Jaime Haage.

Of course, fans who come back again and again want to know the performers, and

Davis says this year’s “band song” — when they’re introduced — is Brad Paisley’s hit,

“Cliffs of Rock City.” And they’ll get to see Davis come out from behind his piano to play

the “keytar,” a keyboard instrument he can wear like a guitar.

“I’m kind of a shy guy on one hand, but I like people,” Davis says with a chuckle.

Grand Jubilee is on stage four nights a week through February — Tuesday, Thursday,

Friday and Saturday — with bonus shows Feb. 15-16 for Valentine's Day. The full six-

day-a-week schedule resumes in March.

Branson Celebrates America's 250th Birthday in 2026

Branson, Missouri, is preparing for a historic year of patriotic celebration in 2026 as the United States marks its 250th anniversary. Known as one of “America’s Most Patriotic Destinations,” the Branson community is planning a full calendar of special events, installations, and community-wide experiences that highlight the nation’s heritage and honor those who have served.

Highlights include Rally Point Branson, a patriotic weekend set for June 12-14, 2026, with expanded activities and a Flag Day record attempt to display a large number of American flags in a single location.

Beyond marquee events, Branson will feature decorative red, white, and blue crosswalks called the “Patriotic Path,” pockets of public art and patriotic murals, and the American Pie Trail. Homes and businesses will be invited to participate in the “One Flag for Everyone” initiative to show community pride throughout the year.

Visitors can also explore long-standing tributes to U.S. military history, such as the Veterans Memorial Museum on Highway 76, which showcases thousands of exhibits honoring service members from multiple conflicts, along with serene outdoor spaces for reflection and remembrance.

Branson’s yearlong celebration of America’s semiquincentennial offers something for every visitor, blending tradition, community spirit, and family-friendly experiences. It is poised to be a standout year for both residents and travelers.

Good afternoon!

Friday night, we wrapped up 23 remarkable years of Branson Country USA —Branson’s longest-running weekly radio and television broadcast. What began as a late-night idea grew into a coast-to-coast tradition filled with laughs, standing ovations, and unforgettable “ON AIR” moments. Ending on a high note was important to us… and that’s exactly how it felt.

We were honored with a sold-out house — a room filled with VIPs, longtime fans, affiliates, and partners who have been part of this journey from the very beginning. The energy was electric, and the applause felt like a warm embrace from the entire Branson community.

A highlight of the night was the special recognition given by the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce. Chamber President Pamela Yancey presented us with a beautiful plaque commemorating more than two decades of weekly entertainment on radio and television. We were also proud to have Brad Thomas, President of Silver Dollar City and a true supporter of live entertainment, in the audience cheering us on.

Our final special guest — the one and only Clay Cooper — truly put the icing on the cake. A longtime friend and fan-favorite, Clay helped us celebrate in perfect Branson style.

As we closed the curtain for the last time, we reflected on all those who believed in this show. Someone behind the curtain who deserves a spotlight: Andy Holloway . For 21 years, Andy has been the brainpower ensuring everything behind the scenes worked flawlessly. From managing logistics to shaping the show’s format and flow, Andy’s passion and excellence helped define the success of Branson Country USA . Without Andy, this show simply wouldn’t have happened.

Most of all, thank you to our Wild Bunch . You tuned in, showed up, and cheered us on every single week. You made this show what it is — and what it will always remain in our hearts.

The Grand Country Buffet "Holiday Feast" begins at 11am and continues until 8pm on Thursday, November 27th. (As a reminder Season Pass holder and/or the special ticket discount is excluded on holidays.)

Grand Country Music Hall will perform two shows on Thanksgiving Day. Pets & Giggles is on at 3pm, and Grand Jubilee will be at 7:30pm.

Grand Country Welcomes Todd Oliver and His Talking Dog “Irving” to Pets & Giggles for the Holidays

Pets & Giggles, at Grand Country Music Hall, is a laugh-out-loud interactive experience that invites kids and parents on stage to compete in age-appropriate games, hilarious skits, and spontaneous adventures. A master of clean comedy and ventriloquism, Todd Oliver grew up loving dogs, music, and magic. As we prepare for our 2026 season, we’ve made a few adjustments to our entertainment lineup to help us operate more efficiently while continuing to provide the high-quality, family entertainment you’ve come to expect from Grand Country.

Two of our talented performers — Jackie Brown and Nathan Agdeppa — will be stepping away from their regular roles next year. These positions are being phased out as part of our updated show structure, and will not be replaced.

Both Jackie and Nathan have been valued members of our Grand Country family, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their dedication, professionalism, and the joy they’ve shared with audiences through the years.

Jackie has been a cherished part of Grand Jubilee for 17 seasons. Her voice, heart, and humor have helped shape the show into what it is today. She has earned many awards and made countless fans. We’re pleased to share that Jackie will continue to appear on Thursday in our inspiring New South Gospel show.

Nathan has brought incredible talent and energy to Comedy Jamboree over the past three years. His skill on the fiddle and his easy rapport with the cast and crowd have made him a favorite with guests. Nathan will continue to perform with Down Home Country during our spring and fall seasons next year.

While their full-time roles are concluding, both Jackie and Nathan will always be part of our Grand Country story — and we know you’ll join us in celebrating their continued success.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we look forward to another year of laughter, music, and memories at Grand Country Music Hall.

Billy Yates is a big musical deal.

Since he started his career as a teenager in Nashville, he's won an Emmy Award, been nominated for a Grammy, played the legendary Grand Ole Opry 53 times, toured Europe every summer for over a decade — and won prestigious awards like the European CMA Male Vocalist of the Year there, too. He also co-write two of George Jones' greatest hits, “I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair” and "Choices," which won a Grammy for the legendary country music crooner.

Seriously. This guy who grew up in Doniphan, Mo., got married at George Jones' house 32 years ago. He could live anywhere he wants to, play anywhere he chooses — and he has chosen to headline The Down Home Country Show again this fall at Grand Country Music Hall in Branson. In fact, he's grown so attached to Branson that he's selling his home in Nashville to move full time to the Missouri Ozarks.

“Billy was making a guest appearance on our Friday night late show, Branson Country USA, and hearing his sound and watching his interaction with our audience, it hit me that Billy really is a perfect fit for our classic country show,” says Mike Patrick, executive producer of more than eight shows at Grand Country Music Hall.

“I love traditional country music, and The Down Home Country Show is the best place in Branson to find that sound," Yates adds. "I’m super-excited and honored to be a part of this great show with such a talented group of entertainers.”

Yates returns for the September through December performances of The Down Home Country Show with Entertainer of the Year Jamie Haage and Comedian of the Year Jarrett Dougherty. With 10 a.m. shows Tuesday through Friday, he'll set the mood for a great Branson day with all the songs that made audiences fall in love with country music across the years.

It's a routine that suits him perfectly. He says he's prone to wake up early, so he's got plenty of time for two cups of coffee and a light breakfast before rolling into the Grand Country Music Hall to greet his colleagues, get his guitar tuned up and prep the outfits for half a dozen costume changes. He laughs and says it sometimes feels like he spends as much time changing clothes as he does performing — but it's the performing he loves. And this is the music he grew up listening to as it was recorded by icons like Jones, Charley Pride, Jim Reeves and Ernest Tubb.

Yates went to Nashville intending to become a performer — and he did, almost immediately. But it was singing demo versions of songs that writers wanted to pitch to country stars. Songwriting was not on his radar, until he found himself working on “I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair.”

"It was the very first song I had recorded by anybody," he says, "and it was truly a blessing. It opened a lot of doors — and it allowed me to see myself as a songwriter. It earned me some respect in the business, too.

"When we wrote the song, I just hoped George would record it," he says. "It was written specifically for him. I had no way of knowing how it would change everything. It still helps put food on the table for my family, which is insane to me!"

He also admits he never envisioned himself being the age of the protagonist in the song, who sings about continuing to rock on stage, even with gray hair. "I've still got neon in my veins," the lyrics go. "My body's old, but it ain't impaired. I don't need your rockin' chair."

"Branson shows are a lot of fun," Yates says. "And we're singing not just to audiences to relate to that song, but we're turning the younger crowd onto that traditional country music. The audiences love the music, and if you love them, they’ll love you back. That’s why performers love Branson."

Also on stage this autumn at Grand Country Music Hall are:

Comedy Jamboree — If you liked the taste of comedy you got at Grand Jubilee, come back for the Comedy Jamboree, where no two shows are ever the same but the comedy is always family-friendly and full of belly laughs. Showtime is 3 p.m. on select dates.

Pets & Giggles — Whether you’ve got kids of all ages or you’re just young at heart, you’ll love Pets & Giggles, filled with games, skits and the cutest dogs in Branson showing off their speed, agility, teamwork and trust. You might also find yourself a star of the show as audience members get in on the hilarious adventures. Showtime is 10 a.m. on select days.

New South Gospel — By popular demand, Branson’s Best Quartet, New South, sings all your gospel favorites at 3 p.m. Thursdays.

Branson Country USA — Co-hosted by Jamie Haage and Mike Patrick, this late-night show promises the powerful harmonies of New South, lots of laughs and guest stars you won’t believe you’re actually seeing. A Barking Good Time with Bernie

Bernie is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel — adorable big brown eyes, curly ears you want to touch and a fluffy, wagging tail. He's also the first dog audiences meet at Grand Country Music Hall's Pets & Giggles family show.

Bernie isn't exactly a working dog. His filmed welcome to one of the Music Hall's favorite productions is a special cameo appearance. He happens to belong to Andy Parks, all-around comedian at Grand Country and producer of Pets & Giggles show. Oh, and Bernie "talks," which makes it convenient for him to greet patrons — with some technical help, of course.

Bernie actually is a pet belonging to Parks' family, along with a mini-beagle. But most of the trained dogs fans of this show see on stage are adopted from shelters, as are most stunt dog teams around the country, Parks says.

"These dogs are deeply loved by their trainers," he enthuses. "A lot of then sleep with them in their beds! They're not just entertaining dogs but family dogs. You could pet all of them! When I'm walking back stage, they're barking because they're excited to be there. The dogs are loved — and the trainers are a very family-friendly, sweet group of people."

Parks says the starring canines come in all shapes and sizes, from a bull terrier who looks like the famous retail mascot to a French bulldog, a Chihuahua, and blue heelers who perform to music from kid-favorite cartoon "Bluey." Most of them are actually mixed breeds, despite their appearance, says Parks, because they're adopted for talent, not looks.

"One of the favorite tricks is a jump rope," he says, "because kids all want to be up there with a dog! And it's easy for kids to hold the rope while the dog jumps it. Nine times out of 10 that dog will do 10 jumps — and the audience counts along! They want the dog to do 10. The dog wins, and she gets her treat. The kid from the audience gets a prize. And it's very audience involved — because that's what this show is all about!"

Parks came to Grand Country from Silver Dollar City, as did Grand Country Music Hall's master of ceremonies, Mike Patrick, and Entertainment and Events Manager Andy Holloway. Parks was challenged by Holloway to write a new pets show, and "it just so happens we really work well together," Parks says. Pets & Giggles, he explains, still has animals, "but we created it with a really amazing family element — kind of like 'Double Dare' meets pets.

"We're really committed to kids and families having fun at the show and being part of the show and making a memory."

That requires a stellar cast of humans, too, Parks says, which just happens to include his teenage daughter, Tess, a baby when the family moved to Branson.

"The cast are all young themselves — fresh and new and wanting to have fun with your family — and they're always out in the lobby before the show, in the middle of the show, and after the show, to meet our guests — and to find out who would make a great participant," Parks says. "The games in the show bring so many people up on stage, so it's really family-centric and really an experience that makes family memories.

"From the beginning to the end, it's a roller coaster ride of a show, and there's a good chance you or someone you know is going to be a star!"

Parks adds that "as producer, I am very, very passionate about what the audience is experiencing. I know what it's like to be a dad on vacation! And I know what it's like to be a kid. I want to tickle the hearts of the kids and the parents!"

At Grand Country Music Hall, Parks is the Creative Shows Director and also produces and appears in Comedy Jamboree. Off work, he is a full-service dad, who helps homeschool Tess and her 12-year-old sister.

"I love to hear laughter," he says. "I want to hear people having fun. I love to perform, but I also love to see a vision come to pass, to work through the creative process and see what you've created come to the stage and see how the audience loves it. It’s a beautiful balance."

A Mission to Make the Magic

As master of ceremonies at the Grand Country Music Hall, it's Mike Patrick's mission to make the magic — not the rabbit-in-the-hat kind of magic, but the delight-on-the-faces-of-patrons kind.

“Our job is to make people forget their troubles and make special memories they’ll keep forever,” says Patrick, who is the reigning emcee of the year in Branson and the heart that sets the beat for all the shows at the Grand Country Music Hall. “There are no boundaries between the entertainers and the audience. This is 100% real talent, performing for real people.”

Patrick learned about that kind of magic early, growing up down the road from Branson in Nixa, Mo. He attended church with the original Bald Knobbers, the Mabe family, who started the Branson family entertainment tradition in 1959.

"I was 5 before I knew not everybody did a show at night," Patrick remembers with a laugh. "I was always in love with Branson. I always knew I wanted to be a part of that world."

Patrick got his foot in the door as a train robber and a member of the saloon show cast at Silver Dollar City — 20-plus train robberies a day and seven shows at the saloon, where he says he "honed his comedy chops." After earning his bachelor's degree at Missouri State University, he went on to be an event producer at Silver Dollar City, helping shape the National Kids Fest, Southern Gospel Picnic and the beloved Old Time Christmas festival.

Since 2003, Patrick has been the general manager of the Grand Country Music Hall, the jewel at the center of Branson’s Grand Country Resort. The resort has plenty to offer on its own. It’s got lodging that can accommodate the whole family. It’s got an indoor/outdoor water park. It’s got an indoor go-kart track, mini-golf, laser tag, arcade, bumper cars and more. It’s got a wide variety of food choices for every taste, from burgers to pizza to a buffet of homestyle favorites.

But whether you've decided to make the resort your home-away-from-home in Branson or you're just in town to find Branson's best music, Grand Country Music Hall has it all. The hardest decision any music lover will have to make is which show to see, and Patrick says you can squeeze in three on most days or four on Friday:

Grand Jubilee — This is where audiences fall in love with Grand Country performers and make the choice to come back again and again! With the quartet New South and The Rhinestone Mafia centerstage, the show has won “Entertainers of the Year,” “Branson’s Best Show,” “Branson’s Best Variety Show,” “Quartet of the Year,” “Comedian of the Year,” “Emcee of the Year” and more. You’ll hear Top 40, country & gospel classics, and rock ‘n’ roll hits from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, all seasoned with comedy by Jamie Haage. And you’ll see emcee Patrick in a dozen different custom-made rhinestone suits from Hollywood because “half the magic happens through your eyes.” Grand Jubilee takes place every day but Sunday at 7:30 p.m., so you can build your schedule around it.

Audience members come back again and again, Patrick says, because they know they can count on multi-talented entertainers, wholesome entertainment and a family atmosphere — because Grand Country Resort is family owned and operated.

"We have 2,500 season pass holders," Patrick marvels of the Music Hall fans who are regulars. "We call them 'The Wild Bunch' because they are! They're the ones screaming and hollering — sometimes three generations of families screaming and hollering together! When we turn the house lights up, we see people we know — people who send us birthday cards and Christmas cards and baby announcements."

The Grand Country Music Hall is where "musicians become entertainers," Patrick says, and where they learn to laugh together, cry together and love the business of making music together. All audiences have to do is come in, sit down and get ready for a good time.

Patrick even has the answer for those who can’t make up their minds. He says an all-inclusive package brings together shows at Grand Country Music Hall, meals, lodging and tickets for Silver Dollar City and Dolly Parton’s Stampede. It’s what you do for family, he says, and everything about Grand County is family-oriented.

“We want to make the audience feel like family,” Patrick says. "Then we want to tie those emotions together with feel-good music."

Born To Be Funny at Comedy Jamboree

Decades of Studying the Art of Humor

“Some people are born to do math,” muses Andy Parks. “Some are born to be nurturers. And some are just born to be funny.”

Parks should know. He’s been studying the art of humor for most of two decades at Grand Country Music Hall, this year sharing the stage for the Comedy Jamboree with Master of Ceremonies Justin Sifford.

It all begins when "Andy goes out before the show and does this usher character," Sifford says. "I’m not even out there, and I’m tired just listening to it! He’s out there seating people, asking about birthdays, anniversaries, gauging the crowd. When he comes back after that, he’ll tell me what he's learned — 'they’re hot' or 'we've got our work cut out for us today.' It's worthy of a university study why some crowds are hot and some just aren’t.

"But Branson crowds are always fun and easy going," Sifford quickly adds. "As emcee, my job is I’m the straw that stirs the drink. We’re going to talk to you, engage you, possibly make fun of you. But that preshow that Andy does is the fast ball. Then we come out swinging."

Sifford says Comedy Jamboree is not Branson's traditional "country" humor. There's no country music, he says by way of example; nowadays it's rock 'n roll and pop. And the comedy, he says, is more of the sketch style, more improv and a little bit edgier.

There isn't a script, Parks adds. Instead, there is a meeting at the beginning of the year when the Comedy Jamboree team outlines some of the bits within the show. The rest, Sifford says, "is completely organic." Audience participation is always a crowd pleaser — and a lot of fun for the comedians. But Sifford adds that it isn't easy.

"You've got to be at the top of your game when you do something like that," he says, laughing himself. "You're putting it all out there, and you run the risk of failing badly. But it’s one of the parts of the show I look forward to because it’s challenging."

Sifford came to the Branson entertainment scene the same way so many people did. He worked at Silver Dollar City.

"That was my job during college," he explains. "I'd come home on the weekends and rob trains. My parents were so proud."

But the day after he graduated with a bachelor's degree in TV and radio broadcasting, he got a call saying there were openings in the theme park's saloon show. He auditioned, got the job, and met Mike Patrick, who is now his boss at Grand Country Music Hall. The rest is history — and comedy gold. Parks has Silver Dollar City on his resume, too, and says that's where he learned all about the idea of making memories with your audience.

"Andy used the word to describe this year's show as 'an experience,'" Sifford says. "That's a pretty good word! This show this year is the hardest I've ever worked! At times in the past, I had time to sit down, time to look at my phone. For this two hours, I don’t have time to go to the bathroom!

"I think people outside looking in wonder how hard can comedy be? Well, try it. And you tell me. I’ve got a college degree; I’m physically able to do most anything; I could be trained to to do most anything. But nobody can be trained to do what we do. Comedy is timing. It’s delivery. Either you have it or you don’t. I emcee, I do comedy, I sing — and I try every day to give 110 percent for those two hours."

What Parks can promise is that Comedy Jamboree will be clean.

"Someone will always be offended, and someone will always think it’s hilarious," he says. "We’re not doing other people’s jokes; we’re making it up. We'll shock them into laughter, tickle them into laughter, comfort them into laughter. Comedy should be an experience that takes you out of the theater and out of the sorrow, the sadness, the pain, the frustration, to where you can see a little light at the end of the tunnel."

Serving up Laughs in Branson, Missouri

Jordan Williams is 17 years old — and has a performing gig so many actors would envy. She gets paid to do improvisational comedy at Grand Country Music Hall in Branson, working as one of four hosts of the popular family show Pets & Giggles.

The show was born when Events Manager Andy Holloway challenged producer Andy Parks to write a new pets show, and “it just so happens we really work well together,” Parks says. Pets & Giggles, he explains, still has animals like more traditional shows, “but we created it with a really amazing family element — kind of like ‘Double Dare’ meets pets.

“We’re really committed to kids and families having fun at the show and being part of the show and making a memory.”

Williams met Parks at a homeschool cooperative, where he taught improvisational comedy — a class she avoided because she found it "terrifying." But when he substituted in her theater class, she had no choice but to give it a try. And she was so good that when a job came open in Pets & Giggles, he invited her to audition.

It wasn't her introduction to theater, by any means, she says. She's been appearing on stage with that homeschool co-op since she was 6 years old and studying at King's Academy of Performing Arts, a non-profit, Christian based theater academy in Branson. Family moves to Colorado and then California kept her off stage for a few years, but when she returned to Branson and to performing, Williams says she was thoroughly hooked. "My love for theater just skyrocketed!" she says.

Now, six months into her role in Pets & Giggles, Williams knows that no two days will ever be the same, but all of them will be the most fun she can imagine.

"It's always crazy on stage," agrees cast member Zane Kramer, 21, who has been with the show for two years. "But we love the show! We have lots of big crowds coming in, and they're looking for the chance to get up on stage, and we give them that opportunity."

It's the job of Williams, Kramer and their colleagues to involve the audience in everything from game show segments to jumping rope with some of the show's canine headliners.

The starring canines come in all shapes and sizes, from a bull terrier who looks like the famous retail mascot to a French bulldog, a Chihuahua, and blue heelers who perform to music from kid-favorite cartoon “Bluey,” all of them accompanied by their own trainers. Trainers may come and go through the season, Parks explains, but it's the core cast who keep the performance on track.

Kramer says everybody on the team is constantly looking for new ideas to make the show fresh and funny — "because we have so many audience members who keep coming back!" — and that means he and his castmates are always putting their heads together, looking for new material. But most of the fun is driven by the folks they bring into the story.

"We pull strangers up on the stage every day," Kramer says. "Sometimes that means figuring out how to redirect or pretend this is all part of the script, so to speak. We never know what's going to happen, but that's why we like to do it!

"It wouldn't work without the cast being completely dialed in. I love the team we have, and they keep it steady."

Williams says she just switches her brain into improv mode.

"You have to see where everyone is on stage, hear everybody's little comments, and still keep what you're doing on track," she says. "I just remind myself to relax and breathe, turn my brain off and roll with it."

Her favorite part, Williams says, is when kids "look at you like you're the best thing they've ever met!"

"Doing a Branson show was always my dream," she says. "But I didn't know 'til I joined this job just how cute the kids would be and how much I'd enjoy them!"

Williams will stay with the show come fall, but she'll also be attending college at Missouri State University in Springfield, with the goal of becoming a psychologist or psychiatrist. Kramer says he's doing exactly what he plans to do for the foreseeable future.

"It's funny, because my dad wanted me to go to college, and now I'm a comedian in a pet show," he says. "But this is all I want to do."

Parks credits the cast of "stellar" humans for making Pets & Giggles fun for everybody on stage and in the audience.

“The cast are all young themselves — fresh and new and wanting to have fun with your family — and they’re always out in the lobby before the show, in the middle of the show, and after the show, to meet our guests — and to find out who would make a great participant,” Parks says. “The games in the show bring so many people up on stage, so it’s really family-centric and really an experience that makes family memories.

“From the beginning to the end, it’s a roller coaster ride of a show, and there’s a good chance you or someone you know is going to be a star!”
